Dr Leon W. Cowen (PhD) has been a practicing Clinical Hypnotherapist for over 40 years. After being responsible for the continuing professional education of two clinical hypnotherapy associations he responded to numerous requests to teach and founded the Academy of Applied Hypnosis in 1983. Apart from his private practice and designing and developing the Academy’s courses, Leon consults to Professional Associations, Government Agencies and Industry Boards regarding Australian Clinical Hypnotherapists’ professional training standards. Leon is actively involved in all aspects of training -  lecturing, providing student support (including phone/Skype) and supervision.

He has served as the Chair of the Hypnotherapy Council of Australia Educational Advisory Board and has completed a PhD with the University of Western Sydney (School of Medicine) by conducting research in professional education and standards for clinical hypnotherapy.

IN PRACTICE   (see also Dr Cowen's website) Leon commenced practice as a Clinical Hypnotherapist in 1974 and is an acknowledged leader in the profession. In his busy practice he assists his clients, accepts referrals from various health professionals and is an accredited WorkCover Provider (Approval Number: 8613). He lectures at universities, hospitals and conferences on specialist hypnotherapy techniques and is a prolific writer of articles for professional journals and public media.
